Mods:
Bone Stock. Sponsons up.
Results:
63.5avg/ 7010rpm. Over 10 runs, Porpoises badly, cavitation is terrible.Couldn't get out of it's own way if it tried. Turning at low speed is fun, but high speed is dangerous! Reserve setting doesn't work. Guages are a joke. Can't read RPM's. Borrowed a Tiny tach to get readings. sad.

Date: 4/15/02,
Conditions:
Saguaro, 1300ft, 88degAir-breeze, 65deg Water-boat chop, 5%hum, 10runs.

Pro-Tec PV controller, rideplate, scoopgrate, Riva Sponsons, R/D Dplate, Impros Concord 13/19/rubber boot, Shoe mods with cavities filled, gas tank flapper removed, reserve line only,  xlt guage, stock pump cone.
Results:
65avg/7010rpm. Over 10 runs. Porpoising is minimum on smooth, and predictible on chop. Rough water gets bad, but is recoverable around 55mph. Needs better setup. No cavitation. Turns really well with sponsons. PV controller makes  engine feel much smoother. Reserve mod works great down to one bar. Still slow out of hole.

Date: 4/27/02,
Conditions:
Lake Perris, CA, 1500ft, 150mile race. Heavy boat chop. 5.5 mile course.
Mods:
Pro-Tec PV controller, rideplate, scoopgrate, Riva Sponsons, R/D Dplate, Impros Concord 13/19/rubber boot, Shoe mod with cavities filled, gas tank flapper removed, reserve line only,  xlt guage, stock pump cone.

63 avg/7000 on glass. Race conditions, 60 avg on 2 foot boat chop. Bad Porpoising. Terrible in the turns. Sluggish bottom end. Fuel sending unit died. Average times listed per lap, pit times included. http://www.hydrotoys.com/609team1.xls

Date: 4/29/02
Conditions:
Lake Saguaro, 1300ft, 80deg, no wind, 70deg water, heavy boat chop, lots of traffic.
Mods: Same as above, but with 2 washers under rear of ride plate.
Results:
62 avg/7020 on glass. 60 avg on boat chop. NO porpoising. Turning was pretty good, but no low end power, hence sluggish out of hole.

Date: 5/19/02
Conditions:
Canyon Lake, 1650ft, 80deg, no wind, low humidity, 75deg water, smooth.
Mods: Pro-Tec PV controller, rideplate (no washers), scoopgrate, Riva Sponsons (in full down position) and trimtabs, R/D Dplate, Impros Concord 13/19 with "Talon" PFMB prop boot, Shoe mod with cavities filled, gas tank flapper removed, reserve line only,  stock pump cone.
Results:
64avg/7120 on glass. Full tank. No loss on boat chop. No porpoising. Ski was controllable until 3 foot boat waves, when it unloaded badly, till around 54mph, until hook up.

Date: 5/21/02
Conditions:
Saguaro Lake, 1300 ft, 70deg, 25mph wind gust, light chop with some 1 foot boat chop spaced badly apart, 70 deg water, 25% humidity.
Mods: Riva Ignition, Curve 1, 8000 rev limit, 6100 PV setting, Free Flow exhaust, Pro-Tec Ride plate (no washers), Dplate, Pro-Tec Grate, Riva Sponsons (in full down position) and Riva Trim tabs, Impros Concord 13/19 with "Talon" PFMB prop boot, Shoe mod with cavities filled, reserve line only, stock pump cone.
Results:
64avg/7130 on light boat chop. Full Tank. Explosive bottom and mid range. Felt great. No porposing. Body "english" on front of ski works great in heavy chop.  Much louder than before from 3100 thru mid throttle, but I like the tone. However, when it unloads, it revs WAY too high and then bogs on landing. Rev limiter needs resetting lower. Possibly PV needs setting lower.

Date: 06/01/02
Conditions: Lake Isabella, CA. 2500 ft, 75 deg, 30mph winds, BRUTAL waves, mixed in a blender. Water was cold. 80% humidity. 2 hour 5.2mile race format.
Mods: Mods: Riva Ign, Curve 1, 8000 rev limit, 5500 pv, Free flow, P-T ride plate, with 2 large washers, Pro-Tec Grate, Riva Sponsons in full down position, Riva Trim Tabs, Impros 13/19 Solas with Talon, Shoe mod, reserve line, stock pump cone, Dplate.
Results:
55Avg/6900 in a blender. Peak speed of the day was 61, at 7010rpm, on very choppy water. Hook up was non-existant. Smooth water speed was terrible due to 2 washers and high altitude. Surpisingly, gas guage is now working...

Date: 06/10/02
Conditions: Canyon Lake, 1500 ft, 100deg, 5mph wind, heavy chop, with some smooth areas, 75 deg water, 5% humidity.
Mods: Riva Ign, Curve 1, 8000 rev limit, 5500 pv, Free flow, P-T ride plate, with 1 thin washer, Riva Grate, Stock Sponsons in down position, Riva Trim Tabs, 13/19 with Talon, Shoe mod, reserve line, stock pump cone, Dplate, Impros 13/19 Solas.
Results:
61avg/7080 on light boat chop on full tank. 64 repeatable, on 2 bars. Great bottom and mid. No porposing, but would like more hook-up on wave tops. Unloading is not as bad with the pv's set lower.

Date: 06/25/02
Conditions: Saguaro Lake, 1300ft, 110deg, 15mph wind, heavy chop with no smooth water, 80 deg water, less than 10% humidity.
Mods: Riva Ign, Curve 1, 8000 RL, 5500 PV, Free Flow, R&D plate (no washers), grate, tabs, no shoe mod, stock cone, Dplate, Protec sponsons in full down, Speedfreaks Speed cut Nujet 13/19, 3 deg nozzle.
Results:
64 avg/6800 on heavy chop on half tank. Same on 2 bars. Good bottom end, however, with new prop, boat tends to surge after PV's open, indicating setting needs to be higher, probably due to loading of engine. New sponsons hook on a dime, and feel great. Very predictable, even in rough. Slight porpoising, but considering how rough the conditions, I feel 1 washer could remedy the water situation.

Date: 07/02/02
Conditions: Saguaro Lake, 1300ft, 110deg, 0 wind, light chop with rippled areas, 83 deg water, 20% humidity.
Mods: Advent Ign-Curve2, 7500RL, 6000PV, JETTING(110LJ /120HJ/1LT/1 HT 1 1/4, 95spring, N/S1.5) with Tau Ceti Flame arresters with socks, Riva 150psi head with girdle, 100oct gas for safety, BR8ES-11 new plugs, Free Flow, R&D plate/grate/tabs, stock cone, Protec sponsons in full down, Nujet 13/19 speed cut, 3 deg Nozzle.
Results:
65 avg/6850 on light chop on half tank. Same on 2 bars. Blistering bottom end, tends to shoot out of water. Mid range is strong, however surging and loading up was felt after 20 seconds at mid throttle. Top end was strong. Plug chops indicate a choclate brown color on all three plugs, so more rpms are available. Handling is same as before, with light porpoising. Still needs work.

Date: 07/08/02
Conditions: Canyon Lake, 1600ft, 110deg, 5mph wind, light chop, 80deg water, 10% humidity.
Mods: Same as above, Stage 2, Plugs were bead blasted, High screws out 1.
Results: 67 avg/6900 on light chop, half tank. Same or lower on 2 bars. Little sluggish compared to last week, but still strong. Plug chop indicates a lighter brown on all three. Still a little rich on top end, and very rich in mid range. Handling is same, with light porpoising.

Results:
71/7500 avg, with 300lb rider on board. 200lb rider GPS'd at 73mph avg speed. 7 gallons gas. Fast as it's ever been out of the hole. Plug chop indicates Rich chocholate brown on all three, with egt temps ranging from 900 to 1090. Ski pulled hard thru chop, but the handling tendancy for the nose is to bounce up, and lose all momentum. Average rough water speed was approximately 62 in 1-2ft chop, and cross chop. Ski HAMMERS in, on cross chop, due to much higher speeds. Still smoother than STXR. No 3/4 lean condition felt. Gas Pressure is 3psi at idle, and 6.25 at WOT. Lost gas valve spring, and noted that rough water speed dropped off drastically. Need to find that light duty spring. Also, might need to install slightly higher sized jet in return line to lower overall gas pressure. Need to test 3/4 throttle to verify no lean condition. Triple cooling setup should help with engine temps over long periods. Pipe shake is terrible. Need to fabricate solid mounts and test vibration control versus pipe shake harmonics. No wonder these things break all the time.

Peak speed around 70mph with 300 lbs rider on board. Sustainable 68-69mph in near perfect water. RPM's are 7820.  I was around 73ishmph last time out but that was on 5 gallons. This was on 15ish gallons. BLISTERING KNARLEY AWESOME BADARSE bottom end. I can spin the Riva 13/19SetBack at will. Plugs are close to optimum at a light brown.  I see oil leakage on front power valve. They all open all the way.

I do not like the ride plate. It feels bouncy. I tried one, then two shims on the rear. I'm going to put the stock one back on, and make it work with the mechanical trim tabs. The tabs work okay, but still do not help the ski recover in the really rough stuff. Once it starts bouncing, I have to let off, to gain control...just like before. Speed drops from peak down to high 50's, then recover.  I played with the tab height, and found that if too far down, they can cause the ski to bounce even worse. All the way up, seems to be my best position. That seems to provide the best control, and does not cause oscillations when it gets really rough.

Found a water leak on the rear pipe flange. I had trouble with this one during the 1/2" water cooling install, and had to have some welding done. I'll rip it out, and see if that is the problem. It could just be the gasket. The pipes DO run warm, plumbed this way.

Results:
Peak speeds around 70mph. Sustainable 68-69 in light chop, with either 300lb rider or 200lb rider. RPM's at 7850, with egt's 1100 across all three. Front power valve still leaky. One of the cooling dumps swivled around and water is hitting left leg. Power on the bottom end is "off the charts". However with the stock ride plate on there it seems to take a second or two longer to get up on plane. However, with the rough water, the ski maintains a flatter attitude over the R&D plate. Definately feels planted. SOLID. Turns great. Speed drop off in rough was WELL OVER 60-63 for the first time. No loading at speed. Chops indicate light brown. Water leak on rear pipe is gone. Also found rub spots on pipe/pipe near lower mount. Rotated 3-pipe collector flange to achieve better angle on that rear pipe. New seat mod is a winner.

Suspect water droplets around carb area. Could not find source. Need to retourque head. Power would drop off 100 rpm's around 1mile. Suspect deto. Rough water speed is around 62 on 2 foot boat chop. Very happy with ski attitude, and getting better using the trim tabs.

NOTE: Stock ART pistons, nitrogen treated with polished bosses shows major cracks across bottom of bosses. This is no better than box-stock pistons!! Installing PROX next.

08/03/03
Conditions: Saguaro Lake. 1300ft. light wind. Heavy boat chop. 105 Deg Air, 75Deg Water. 35%Humidity.
*14 vien SB, with prop. I'm not even sure what the prop dimension are, but it is a swirl style.
*2001 Driveshaft and intermediate shaft.
*Re-aligned engine to shaft per manual.
*HPC coated ProX pistons and domes.
*RPM modified carbs.
*Water rerouting due to new style head.
*Per Larry/Mark, I checked my RPM crankshaft support, and sure enough it is wore. However, I didn't have time to repair with the Mexico party, er, race coming up. So one more race...
*66E cylinders.
*38cc Rius heads.
*UMI steering and pro taper bars.
*Repositioned gas pressure gauge, and new EGT system and added a primer, and removed the accel pump and cover.
*Removed middle carb spring for easier trigger pull.
*110lows LSS-1/2 turn, 150high HSS-1 turn.

Initial results, very positive. Rough water speed up from 62 to about 65!!! Smooth water speed jumped from 69 to 71. EGT's still in the low 900's, and plugs are dark chocolate brown from top to bottom. Bottom end is much improved, even without my jet works valves installed. Noted a much lower water flow at idle than before. I've installed 3 jetworks valves on 3 of my head dumps. This should keep the water pressurized a little better at lower rpms, without loosing capacity at WOT. Now it's time for the ocean...

10/19/03-HIGH SPEED TESTING
Conditions: Saguaro Lake. 8:15am, 1300ft. No wind. MIRROR glass. 74 Deg Air, 72 Deg Water. 8%Humidity 23.9"F barameter.
*14 vien SB, with prop. I'm not even sure what the prop dimension are, but it is a swirl style.
*RPM modified carbs.
*Water rerouting due to new style head. Jet Works valves on 3 of the cooling lines to maintain pressure at idle.
*66E cylinders and 38cc heads.
*UMI steering and pro taper bars.
*Repositioned gas pressure gauge, and new EGT system and added a primer, and removed the accel pump and cover.
*Removed middle carb spring for easier trigger pull.
*R&D Rideplate, no shims, 5deg Wedge, sponsons up, Single vien grate.
*110lows LSS-1/2 turn, 150high HSS-3,2.5,2.5 turn.
*1/4 tank of gas.

Results: Peak speed on first pass was 81.7mph at 8200rpms!!! Second pass was 80mph at 8150.  Third pass stuck a piston HARD after 20 seconds W.O.T.!!! WTF!!! Got it cranked and ran around the lake for a few minutes. Went into the canyon, and cranked off another 80mph pass at 8200rpms. EGT's are showing detonation after 20 seconds of WOT. Major issue with either ignition, or compression. Carb turns does not effect deto. There is more power to be found. Need to investigate props...since I have no idea what version Skat Swirl that is!!!
